<p>Imagine walking down the street and simply stepping off a curb and hearing an awful cracking sound and feeling pain shoot immediately from your ankle. This scenario can unfortunately be a common one for someone that suffers the later stages of osteoporosis.<br /> Osteoporosis is a degenerative disease in which the mass and density of your bones break down and become brittle. This condition can be extremely dangerous and is actually listed as the top 12 cause of death for people over 50. While its effects are serious and even life-threatening, osteoporosis can be prevented or even avoided altogether if you change just two small things: your diet and exercise program.</p>
<p>You see, the reason bones become brittle is because as we age, our bones lose the calcium that we built up we were younger. This happens for a variety of reasons but the most common is simply that we don&#8217;t get enough calcium in our diets as our bodies become less efficient at processing it as we get older. This means that we may have eaten the same exact diet for our entire lives but it is this lack of adjustment that is the culprit. Women, because of their smaller bone mass, are at much higher risk for this disease than men but it does affect men as well. It is important to note the types of foods that can eat will help to provide your body with all the calcium it needs to help fight osteoporosis. Milk is often thought of as the perfect provider of calcium but because of its high protein content, it actually reduces the amount of calcium your body is able to absorb so it doesn&#8217;t provide a good source in this case. Foods like yogurt, cheese, green leafy vegetables, egg whites, salt water fish, and almonds make great sources from which to get your calcium. In addition, many products such as orange juice are fortified with calcium and there are many quality calcium supplements on the market as well.</p>
<p>In addition to simply adding calcium into your diet, another area in which to pay attention to is the amount of exercise that you get on a regular basis. Believe it or not, your bones are just like your muscles in that the more you exercise, the stronger they get. Your bones truly respond to exercise in a positive way and the more intense the exercise, the better it helps to build bone density. Obviously, if you have experienced years of sedentary lifestyle and your bones are already in a brittle state, you&#8217;ll want to take your exercise program very slow at first so as not to cause yourself any undue harm. Again, the bigger the person is, the larger their bone mass will be making them less susceptible to this disease. Smaller framed men and women should take caution when beginning any impact bearing exercise training.</p>
<p>So, while osteoporosis can be harmful and even lead to death in the worst case scenarios, simply by modifying your diet and adding a consistent exercise regimen you can greatly reduce your chances of ever being affected by this terrible malady.</p>

<p>Diet and exercise should go hand in hand, the basic principle of any diet is to use more calories than you consume so you are in a calorific deficit.</p>
<p>Cutting back calories is one way of reaching your goal, only if you are using up more calories during the day than you consume without activity. But to boost your chances of losing fat you must exercise.</p>
<p>There are many reasons why exercise is an important factor in your lifestyle, but exercising when you are wishing to lose weight is sensible as your body&#8217;s natural response to calorie cutting is to go into starvation mode. Starvation mode is when your body slows down the metabolism so it can conserve the energy your body has to make it last longer. So rather than drastically cutting calories it is more advisable to exercise.</p>
<p>Aerobic exercise is the way to increase the amount of calories you burn. Aerobic exercise will raise your heart rate which increases the amount of calories you burn. Exercises include, running, walking, swimming, cycling and jogging, of course there are many more aerobic activities to choose from its just a matter of personal taste.</p>
<p>Here are some tips to help you lose weight:</p>
<p>Eat less processed foods and more fresh produce.</p>
<p>Eat and chew your food slowly, try to stop eating before you feel full. It takes around 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain that it is full.</p>
<p>Exercise, even if it is just a small walk, every little helps.</p>
<p>Drink plenty of water, 6 &#8211; 8 glasses a day, this is very important not only to help you lose weight, but for your general well being.</p>
<p>Make your food portions smaller.</p>
<p>Eat smaller meals more frequently, try including protein with each meal as it digests slower and keeps your blood sugar levels on an even keel.</p>
<p>Remember that there are times when you are going to have off days, and you may eat a little more than you should or exercise a little less. Don&#8217;t feel guilty as it is perfectly normal, just stay motivated and determined and you will be fine.</p>
<p>If you decide that you are going to try one of the popular diets on the market, ie Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach Diet or The Zone Diet, you must speak to your doctor first.</p>

Fruits, vegetables, and nuts all contain fiber and satisfy your appetite, helping you to eat fewer calories each day, and that&#8217;s why they will help you with fat loss.</p>

One more easy way to increase your fat loss is to eat 5-6 small meals in a day, rather than having 3 large meals. At the very least, have 3 slightly-smaller-than-normal meals, and add two small snacks in-between meals. Focus on controlling portion size and avoiding excessive hunger. Switching to training for fast weight loss, you need to focus on interval exercise, not frequent aerobic training. Stop the long slow cardio workouts. <p>If you are overweight, you have probably heard these things many times, either from friends or doctors: that weight loss is important, that if you don&#8217;t lose weight, your life span will be shortened by several years, that if you don&#8217;t lose weight, you will get afflicted with several killer diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol level, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, sleep apnea, etc. However, when should you lose weight? When is the right time to say: &#8216;Enough is enough! I am sick and tired of my fat belly, so am going to lose weight&#8217;?</p>
<p>&#13;Well, no one can tell that for you. You need to decide the correct timing for weight loss yourself. Also note that the timing you choose can make or break your weight loss plan. You should start your weight loss efforts when you feel you&#8217;re overweight, but if you are morbidly obese, then no other method except very costly weight loss surgeries can help you with weight loss. As you can see, when it comes to weight loss, timing is extremely important!</p>
<p>&#13;I&#8217;ve been involved with fitness training for several years. I have a friend called Sean who, at one point of time, was extremely overweight (if you look at him now you won&#8217;t be able to tell that just a few years ago, he had a large belly and flabby arms). He was suffering from sleep apnea. He couldn&#8217;t get proper sleep, and no wonder felt dizzy and drowsy all the time. He felt he didn&#8217;t have the energy to carry out his daily routines, and soon people began to call him lazy. Believe it or not, his obesity was the root cause behind all his problems.</p>
<p>&#13;Sean and I are good friends, but for some reason, Sean never asked me for any sort of weight loss advice. It was as if he couldn&#8217;t care less of his weight problem. Until one day&#8230;</p>
<p>&#13;He came to realize when he was not invited by his friend at his birthday party!</p>
<p>&#13;First he found it rather strange, but then he realized that it was all due to his body weight. He also realized that lately several people had started ignoring him. As you can see, his weight problem had become a big hindrance in his life! That was the time when he at last decided that he needed to lose weight.</p>
<p>&#13;He asked me for advice, which I was more than happy to give. A year later, Sean has not only lost several pounds, but also felt better and more energetic. He is now not only able to sleep properly but also carry out his regular activities without a problem. He is always full of energy and enthusiasm!</p>
<p>&#13;As you can see, Sean waited for the right moment before he initiated his weight loss efforts. Before you begin your weight loss journey, ask yourself if it is the right time for you to lose weight! Why do you want to lose weight? Are you unable to bear the weight of your fat belly any more? Do you feel that of late you&#8217;ve become lazy? Are you unable to get promotions in your career? Are you being turned down for dates? Does your doctor advise you to lose weight? Whatever it is, when you decide that it is time to shed those extra pounds, take action! You WILL achieve your goal!</p>
